Characteristics and Construction Considerations of Water based Anti corrosion Paint
1、 The core advantages of water-based anti-corrosion paint
Environmental protection and safety
Low VOC: Organic solvent content<50g/L (much lower than 500g/L for oil-based paints), in compliance with environmental standards such as EU REACH and China GB 30981。
Non toxic and odorless: No irritating odor during construction, suitable for sensitive places such as food factories, schools, hospitals, etc。
Convenient construction
Can be directly diluted with water, cleaning tools do not require chemical solvents。
Quick drying: The surface drying time is about 1-2 hours (25 ℃), which shortens the construction period。
Fire and explosion prevention
Free of flammable solvents, high storage and construction safety, especially suitable for enclosed spaces such as storage tanks and cabins。
Upgrading anti-corrosion performance
Modified water-based resins (such as epoxy and acrylic) combined with corrosion inhibiting pigments (such as zinc phosphate) can achieve salt spray resistance of up to 500-1000 hours (ordinary oil-based paints take about 300-800 hours)。
Breathable and impermeable: The microporous structure of the paint film can release moisture from the substrate, reducing the risk of foaming。
Wide adaptability
Can be coated on various substrates such as steel, aluminum alloy, galvanized sheet, concrete, etc。
Precautions for using water-based anti-corrosion paint:
1. Strict requirements for base surface treatment
Steel surface: Sa2.5 sandblasting or St3 manual rust removal is required, and oil stains must be thoroughly removed (water-based paint is more sensitive to substrate cleanliness)。
Concrete surface: moisture content<8%, pH value<10, otherwise it is easy to cause a decrease in adhesion。
2. Construction environment control
Temperature and humidity: The optimal construction temperature is 5-35 ℃, with a relative humidity of ≤ 75%. Low temperature and high humidity can prolong the drying time, while high temperature may cause the paint film to crack。
Avoid condensation: The surface temperature of the metal should be at least 3 ℃ higher than the dew point to prevent water vapor condensation from affecting film formation。
3. Construction techniques
Do not dilute excessively: the amount of water added is generally ≤ 10%, otherwise the anti-corrosion performance will decrease。
Multi layer coating: It is recommended to use a matching system of "primer+intermediate paint+topcoat", and the interval time between each layer should be according to the product instructions (usually 2-6 hours)。
Tool selection: Prioritize using stainless steel or plastic spray guns to avoid metal ion contamination of the paint solution。
4. Performance limitations
Poor initial water resistance: Avoid contact with water or high humidity environments during the initial curing period (usually within 7 days)。
Slightly low chemical resistance: In strong acid and alkali environments (such as pH<2 or>12), special water-based epoxy or polyurethane paint should be selected。
5. storage and transportation
Anti freezing and anti high temperature: It is recommended to store at a temperature of 5-30 ℃, and insulation measures should be taken during winter transportation (which cannot be restored after freezing)。
Short shelf life: usually 6-12 months (up to 24 months for oil-based paints), it is recommended to use it as soon as possible after opening。
